That is very low register at the start. I’m not sure any of mine from that era (Moogs, ARPs, etc.) could sound that grumbly/grungy in that register, which is making me wonder about the electric organ possibility - although it sounds like there’s some portamento, which would imply synth

Sorry Alex - only just seen this. Intriguing. Just been listening on my CD copy. I can’t tell for definite. Definitely electronic. My guess is it’s something that was in the studio (a la Herbie on Jack Johnson). Either an early monophonic synth or possibly some sort of Farfisa-style organ.
