The amount of AI generated art in slides at this conference, primarily used by older scientists, is killing me. Scientists please. Don’t use these ai platforms to make your figures or slides. They look bad and I have yet to see them meaningfully improve the message of talks.

TBH I’m not sure that there is a leader in the field yet, but it’d be good to move away from filtering on journal prestige or proxies.

Genuinely delighted to download a PhD thesis from a university repository where the author has neglected to remove the words "BITCH THIS IS YOUR THESIS" from the filename.

It’s be good if it could filter by one of the research integrity scores.

YouTube video by ResearchRabbit Welcome to the new ResearchRabbit

ResearchRabbit big updates www.youtube.com/watch?v=St4C... - first impression much better interface , a lot of the new features are similar to LitMaps (there is a partnership). Sadly some features are now under paywall (advanced search) unlike researchrabbit in the past. (1)

Let me be very clear. It is not enough that RFK Jr. was forced to admit today that no causal relationship between Tylenol and autism has been shown.

We know that while disinformation spreads like wildfire on social media, corrections most often die on the vine.

Wikipedia has a mild conservative bias, as it insists on what it calls 'reliable sources' - which mostly means they have been published by capitalist gatekeeping institutions.

The only reason anybody imagines that it has a liberal or left-wing bias is because it's largely accurate. They hate that.

How does research move beyond academic journals to influence policy, practice, and public understanding?

I'll be chatting with Francesca Brazzorotto from @kargerpublishers.bsky.social on Tuesday 4th Nov as part of their People & Science Live series.

The reasoning as to why it's 'not racist' seems like Orwellian double-think. It makes absolutely no sense.

Given the party's refusal to act on Pochin's brazen racism, it should be as socially unacceptable to vote for Reform as it was in the early 2000s to vote for the BNP.

And we should be prepared to say this to people's faces.

Politico: "MPs should consider deleting X, according to a committee led by Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle...

"On social media, the report said MPs should feel β€œempowered to step away from platforms that pose more harm than benefit.”

Absolutely. Please get on with it.

Apologising for being caught out. For phrasing the thought in a way that didn’t disguise the racism enough.

1. We ( @jbakcoleman.bsky.social, @cailinmeister.bsky.social, @jevinwest.bsky.social, and I) have a new preprint up on the arXiv.

There we explore how social media companies and other online information technology firms are able to manipulate scientific research about the effects of their products.
