02.03.2026 11:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A canvas stitched in a pie, with sections for each month. January and February are filled in with tiny embroidered icons representing each day.
To process the chaos, I'm spending a few minutes each night stitching a news diary--embroidering tiny icons representing an important story of the day.
These first 2 months have seen so many heavy developments. But making art helps me make sense of it all, so I think I can manage 10 more.
I was thinking earlier, to you a piece might be a βmess,β but to me would be a masterpiece π
I look forward to whatever you choose to share!
I wish artists didnβt have to stress and worry about money and supplies! πβΎοΈ
A watercolor sketch of orbs of different sizes and colors against a black background. Portrait orientation, upright. To the right, a repurposed shipping box, repurposed for holding artworks. On its front is a failed painting of green blobs, reused as a collage piece. In the box, paintings and sketches. On a green cutting mat. With various other supplies in view.
The referenced sketch, cut from its stretching board, and taped on four corners to the mat.

Good idea! Iβm thinking something like this would be great on our summer camping trip. And itβs compact for packing. It definitely needs the extra support in that case. TBC, but thank you for the inspiration! π

And I want to encourage you to keep going and keep making those messes with your supplies, itβs one way we get better! Amazing things are happening with your art!
But itβs easy for me to say, as the cost of art supplies is getting out of hand!
(And thank you for sharing your process so openly.πβΎοΈ)

01.03.2026 09:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βThink of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.β β Carl Sagan
28.02.2026 12:42 β π 310 π 120 π¬ 5 π 8An artistβs workspace, with various sized plywood boards laid out. The wooden pieces, salvaged from a previous home renovation project, have various brands, weights and surfaces of watercolor paper taped to them on all sides with water-activated adhesive tape (kraft colored). Other tools and supplies are visible in the space.
A photo taken during the stretching process: On the kitchen counter: a soaking wet (on both sides) piece of watercolor paper is adhered to a discarded (then found, by me!) piece of plywood. The paper is buckling from the water, but will dry flat (or stretched). The paints will be applied while still attached to the board, then released with a craft knife once dry. This tape wonβt come off. Traditionally, it would go under the mat when framed. To the upper left of the board, a white porcelain dish holds warm water and a sponge. These never touch the adhesive or tape. To the upper right, a smaller duo for the tape. Various precut tape lengths strewn about. It is advisable to do many of these at a time. An orange handled pair of scissors to the right. Dry flat, but easily storable vertically. The boards are reusable indefinitely.
Weekend projects: [All of the Things!], and maybe throw some blobs of paint onto 1 or 2 these lovelies!
Havenβt stretched my paper in a long time, but itβs a great watercolor best practice to know. And should help to keep the paper flatter (for more flattering pics!)
