The updated US SARS-CoV-2 genomics shows a sharp increase in the NB.1.8.1 variant, and to a lesser extent XFG (combine w/ XFC).
It remains to be seen how much these, especially NB.1.8.1, can lead to a significant rise in cases here, as was seen in Asia.

We're making viruses from public opinions! At #GERF2025 we're asking the public if they would take part in a human challenge study: green for yes, red for no, and blue for maybe. The mix of opinions is fascinating and it's clear there's a hunger to know more! πŸ§ͺ@imperialinfect.bsky.social, @cepi.net

My co-EIC Florian Krammer wrote this commentary in Vaccine on the need for next generation flu vaccines to have a NA component (the N in H5N1 or H3N2).

It’s a smart idea & safeguards against bad matches to HA & other subtypes that share N1 or N2.

Quite the flu season we're having. Here are some thoughts. I finish up by wondering why we'd reduce CDC workforce at a time like this -- just unfathomably short-sighted.
