Though it's hilarious that defense VCs went all-in on Trump who is in turn undermining their TAM by blowing up confidence in US weapon supplies through his erratic behavior.

Nobody wants to stick their head above the parapet and risk getting it blown off, but they're risking a far bigger collapse in their business if others decide the emperor has no clothes.

His daughter being a woke lib is my favorite part of his subplot.

Yeah, it points to a need for a different corporate model for shipyards at this point.

Kind of crazy that a decade into the navy’s dib being shit we still can’t pay sufficient salaries to train and retain skilled workers.

What was the issue that almost precipitated a strike? Pay?

The hunt for attention in showbiz does horrifying things to people.

Perhaps California, Illinois and New York get it together and launch their own gerrymanders, but Democrats are still too reactive and probably need to lose 2026 before actual momentum builds. Sucks!

I wouldn’t be surprised if republicans keep the house next year on the back of gerrymanders at this point. They might get 10 seats out of Texas and Florida, plus a potential few more in Ohio.

Underrated storyline is all of these tariffs might be invalidated in court in the coming months anyway too! That would be a hilarious conclusion to this sordid saga.

The tariff deal negotiations are hilarious because effectively you have other countries negotiating on behalf of US consumers against USG to help us pay less taxes on the things they ship us.

(Yes Shakespeare lived to 1616 but I still think his racial understanding of the world would be pretty alien to us)

I think the racial psychology of any pre-1600 person would map very strangely onto modern racism even if they β€œunderstood” what was going on today. He’d be like that story of the random white guy very invested in Rwandan genocide denial that floats around in screencaps.

But as you said, current AI is probably capable of providing some assistance in filling out forms.

A lot of people are treating AI as being currently capable of generating new, true data very efficiently when its current strength is the processing, synthesis, and output of existing data. What Cuban wants is very hard without AI capable of discovering things in the world better than current tools.

Look I think there are ways to do policy but he’s right that many Americans will take economic security as an opportunity to leverage up on more risk and that can create a political risk from trying to tamp down on risky behaviors.

Abridged series becoming β€œgood” was such fun during their peak. I’m not in fandom spaces much anymore but I wonder if intrepid amateurs are still putting them out.

The Abridged version leaned very hard into the farce element for comedic reasons but I think it worked precisely because of the absurdity already present.

I disagree; air power couldn’t eliminate the Taliban when it was defensively positioned, but going on the offense requires concentrating and deploying force and air power could have destroyed or at least drastically slowed those formations.

It’s not to the benefit of activists to be associated with violent threats if they’re not considered credible.

The coercive power of the state is sufficient in the West to, if needed, put down violent protests. This was less clear in the 60s.

β€œThe chart says I should buy stocks instead of keeping it under my mattress” will in fact make you money even if there’s no causal connection between the chart and the outcome.

I wonder if astrology sometimes appears to work by just getting people do to things randomly when they would otherwise change nothing, and acting randomly has a higher ev than no action.

This had been warned about for the better part of a decade, so what really happened was that an unprepared administration walked right into the lion’s jaw when the consequences were obvious for anyone who thought for three seconds.

Not that it matters but this is almost certainly unconstitutional.

Japan is straight up denying this btw. Totally insane to see the admin running with this line in public.

Never has my interest or respect for an academic dropped more quickly than seeing them sight Bertrand as a useful source on China.

I think you have too much faith in faculty to resist when they would be faced with the same threats to funding that Trump deployed against the board of trustees.
