Thanks for sharing this. Very important work. Do you mind elaborating more on how training a better model is not enough?

How do disparities in healthcare access affect ML models? 💰📉🧐 We found that low access to care -> worse EHR data quality -> worse ML performance in a dataset of 134k patients. Work with Anna Zink (on the faculty job market rn!) + Hongzhou Luan, presented at #ML4H2024

Writing is a lot like weight training. You won't be able to lift a lot at first. You start small. Short session, light weights. Day by day though you get just a *little* stronger. Eventually your sessions get longer, the bars get heavier, and everyone says "I could never do that." Just like you did.

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

AI chatbot can conduct research interviews on unprecedented scale Freely available tool performs strongly in trials against human interviewers and traditional online surveys

So *many* concerns here, but I don't understand why would a qualitative researcher even want this? Why not use a survey instead? The whole point of qualitative interviews is that we co-produce knowledge with our interlocutors through participation in the research process.
