i dont presume the psychology of game developers, but a lot of the difficulty in silksong also feels very...mean? some outright trickery and pranky stuff that hits in a "HAHA, got you !!!" way and i just sigh. hollow knight was challenging, but kind. a pawful of punk-out moments at most.

just learned enemies later in the game will do 3 damage. yeah im done. ill install an easy mode mod and come back to it later maybe

and I just can't be that locked in all the time having to dispense intellect and timing and input and effort to get through common enemies on every single screen, personally. I'm just not that good at video games

and I understand that and respect it, but I honestly hate souls games at this point. I played through souls 3 with my girlfriend and hated every second of it. I was a massive dark souls 1 fan but it was for everything I found in spite of the combat, not because of the combat

it is hard for me to get engrossed in a setting or enjoy the atmosphere of a map, or feel like im on this wandering adventure of discovery, if every enemy is complex and punishing, there are video gamey tight platforming challenges in every hallway, etc.

im inching through it a bit at a time but compared to hollow knight i think silk song is too difficult for me to fully enjoy it. i accidentally spent 9 hours on hollow knight just exploring, but i sit down for an hour and a half with silksong at max, vaguely anxious or tense about its challenges.
