What’s happening to science in the US is devastating, and has implications across the world. The Demographic and Health Surveys programme has reportedly been terminated

The line starts below 20 in the 1920s, dips during the 1930s, and begins rising in the 1930s, marked by a highlighted area around 1940. A peak occurs at the end of World War II in the mid-1940s, where the birth rate surges and reaches around 30. This period is noted as the "baby boom," particularly highlighting the year 1946 as its start. After this peak, the trend shows a gradual decline in birth rates into the late 20th century and early 21st century, settling below 15 by 2024. Annotations on the graph point out that birth rates were actually on the rise in the 1930s before the significant increase during the baby boom period.
