The real scandal here is how deeply embedded Mothership is with the Democratic establishment. It was founded by DCCC alumni and continues to work closely with party leaders. It’s way worse than I thought. And it’s infuriating they continue to allow preying on people to enrich consultants.

The DNC needs to rein this stuff in because letting it continue (a) risks burning out its small dollar donors and (b) makes it harder for advocacy groups to reach our members and activate them around key votes.

Why didn't reviewers catch the ethical issues with Lasker & Pesta's paper before publication? Because it appeared in a new journal edited by... Bryan Pesta. Its inaugural issue was devoted to 'race science', many articles by the same set of co-authors, claiming Black people are less intelligent. 4/

The investigation focused on Bryan Pesta, a faculty member and the apparent driver of the research. But the first author, Jordan Lasker, was mysterious. The Chronicle spent some time trying to figure out who he even was. An undergraduate? They could see Lasker started a PhD program only later. 3/

The Chronicle of Higher Education wrote about the scandal. It wasn't just that thearticle was "racist pseudoscience". It was that the authors misused data from NIH and lied on their data application - filed by Bryan Pesta, a professor at Cleveland State. Pesta was then fired. 3/ archive.is/KwbGy

Background: the "academic" Lasker is or was a PhD student at Texas Tech (2021-2024), but his only decently-cited paper is from earlier, from 2019. That paper, "Global Ancestry and Cognitive Ability", was so bad it led to an investigation, the firing of a co-author, and articles about the scandal. 2/

The saga of the NYT's anti-Mamdani story taken from notorious white supremacist Jordan Lasker (they call him an "academic") gets even more amazing: Lasker's only impactful paper, which claimed white people are smarter, is infamous: it misused data so badly it got his tenured co-author fired. 2/
