PBDSA will be hosting a discussion with Matt McManus on his book The Political Right and Equality. It follows the history of conservative thought and argues its unifying factor is hostility to equality.

South FL chapters of DSA joined the Sunday protest against the proposal of an ICE mega prison complex being built on land surrounded by Big Cypress National Preserve and the reservation of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida.

We oppose all attempts to restrict our food shares, which are a benefit to our community and a protest against an economic system that fails to feed its population. They are an exercise of the right to freedom of speech which is supposedly guaranteed by the Constitution.

The perspective of the capitalists is that our unhoused neighbors are vermin to be herded out of sight by the cops through violence or the threat of violence. We fiercely oppose this perspective, and recognize no separation between ourselves and our unhoused neighbors.

Of course, her real objection is not that the park can't be used, but that if you use the park during that time, you might encounter someone who's homeless. She prefers to defend the capitalist system that produces homelessness by trying to make homelessness invisible.

Mimi May says, "We want people to be fed, but we also are a city of 45,000 people, and we want people to be able to come to the park," but the park is not closed during our food shares. People can and should come to the park, and get to know their neighbors!

We'll be holding our second meeting on V. I. Lenin's What Is To Be Done on Wednesday the 18th at 7:00pm! This time we're reading Part 4 through to the end, but feel free to discuss content from the first half as well!

This month's General Meeting will be rescheduled to the 21st! We'll be featuring a Red Talk from NPC member Luisa M on immigration and filling a Steering Committee vacancy. We hope to see you there!
