This started me on a pizza roll obsession.

It's pretty close to where I live. I like to go there in the early morning when it is misty. There's a good restaurant in town that I have yet to try. One of these days.

25-081: Grandpa's orchid. This old orchid, ready to bloom, came from my grandfather's garden. I brought it home after he passed in 1987, and have managed to keep it alive ever since. In the intervening 38 years, it has bloomed twice. I'm not much of a gardener. #photoaday #gardening #orchid

25-079: Bird School. We spent the day in Bodega Bay, having lunch and hiking around at Bodega Head. On the way out we stopped at this old school. Curiously, there was a woman running down the road with a bird on her head.

25-078: Ticket to ride. We bought train tickets to go up to Reno. In the winter, the view from the train as it ascends the Sierras is spectacular. We boarded but they announced a delay due to a derailment. Three hours later we were still at the station. We bailed, and went for tacos. #photoaday

25-077:Toothpaste. The two on the left were given to me by my friend in Germany. One is for the morning, one for the evening. I don’t remember which is which, and I keep forgetting to translate the labels to find out. The third tube is salty toothpaste from Thailand, which I’ve grown fond of.

25-076: Sourdough starters. I've been experimenting with some different types of starter. The first was a levain, which didn't rise adequately. Yesterday I used the raisin water starter, and was happy with the result. The traditional starter (left) is almost ready. #photoaday #baking #sourdough

25-075: Avocados and tulips at the farmer's market. Years ago when I was first starting out in photography, one of my favorite places to shoot was the downtown Sunday farmer's market. I'd sometimes make prints for the vendors, and they'd often give me free stuff. #photoaday #farmersmarket #avocado

25-073: Failed bread. I have been experimenting with different sourdough starters to see which would work best. This was a levain, and it failed to make the bread rise. I don't see failed recipes as something bad--it's a learning experience. I made buttery garlic croutons from it. #photoaday #baking

25-072: New Car. We've been thinking about getting a new car to replace Mrs. L's 15 year-old Civic. We saw a new car on display at Costco the other day, and decided to go take a look. We ended up with another Civic--a hybrid model. Cars have changed a lot since we last bought one in 2012.

I'm way behind on my photo a day project. This one is from the 12th. It's not that I didn't take a picture every day, it's just that I haven't posted them. I will catch up today. Not that they're great pictures or anything, it's more just so I can document my year.

I’m still hungry.

When I had mine a week or two ago, I slept for about 4 hours after I got home, then got up and felt pretty much back to normal. I was really hungry, though.

I haven't had pizza rolls since I was a kid. Now I want some.

25-070 (a few days late): Dough. I've been baking a few times a week--trying out new recipes and techniques. This is a date bread with raisins and walnuts, ready for baking. Good for breakfast.

I'll bet they can't find it.
