I make a living writing science fiction and fantasy. Mostly fantasy. It's been said I've never met a trope I didn't skewer. I'm good with that. Also, there's cats. And knitting. she/her

The Terminator Future Has Arrived Have you ever heard of the Singularity?

The warscape of the Terminator movies could easily be mistaken for Gaza under the IDF or the drone war in Ukraine.
AI warfare is becoming increasingly deadly.
AI scientists warning about the need for guardrails as technology moves faster and faster.
My latest.

I haven't the faintest idea. The decision comes from Astra at a level I don't deal with. I think $15 is the absolute highest that should be charged for an ebook and I'd rather keep it under $10.

And that should be "...where, given the themes of..."

And you know the really annoying thing? I had a single letter left of my 300 and that's where it should have gone. Argh, I say. Argh.

Today's word is JAM. Today's #BookQW from INTO THE BROKEN LANDS, a created world fantasy were, given themes of power dynamics & what it means to be human, you wouldn't expect fruity/sugary goodness to occur. But JAM is also a verb.

HC, pb, digital, & audio at usual suspects. Shop indie if you can.

Honestly, Ontario banning speed cameras and most bike lanes is a pretty big blow to urbanist optimism in Canada.

The province is 40% of Canada’s population!

The good news is that the recent rain has saturated the soil and the water level in our well is rising. The bad news is knowing this because we've hit the first sulphur pocket.

The trick is making the tea strong enough you can't taste the sulphur.

Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a creature crouching in a low tunnel entrance lined with grey stones and partly hidden by green undergrowth and white flowers. The creature has pale skin covered in sparse black hair and it looks a bit like an ape, a bit like a bear, and completely unlike either of those.

Book extract reads: β€˜Do you know if the pub does food?’ She pointed across the village green. β€˜The George and Dragon?’
One of the other two replied, β€˜I don’t think the dining room will be open, not this evening. The police are using it.’
β€˜Really?’ Fin managed to sound suitably startled. β€˜Why?’
The first girl looked disappointed. β€˜You haven’t heard?’
β€˜We’re on holiday,’ Fin apologised. β€˜We only arrived this afternoon.’
β€˜Someone snatched a baby from a house at the other end of the village.’ The second girl jerked her head, indicating the main road behind us.
β€˜It’s all right though,’ the third girl said quickly. β€˜They’ve found her. She’s back home with her mum and dad.’
The local social networks were impressively quick if they already had that news. How soon would word spread that Fin and I were somehow involved? Other people in Pigeon Lane must have seen the police cars arrive, and the coppers talking to us. They’d have seen the screaming baby being carried out of the cottage. How long before someone shared what we looked like or posted a photo? We’d be instantly recognisable in a place this small.

Dan Mackmain's a strong and silent bloke most of the time so he's learned to be very grateful that women talk to each other.
The Green Man's Holiday is now available from your preferred retailer. Contemporary fantasy rooted in British myths and folklore.

Cozy horror was marketing's idea--cozy was the buzz word for 24/25. Left to my own devices, I'd call it contemporary fantasy but definitely leaning more for romcom than horror. People just tend to overreact to unexpected tentacles...

Cover of Direct Descendant with bakery, birches, and tentacles in the lower left.

"Your words have no power over me, Cassidy Prewitt." The other woman had positioned Melanie in front of her like a shield. I could see her hand and the knife and little else. "If you try to breach my mystical defenses, I will slit this girl's throat."
"Mystical defenses? Seriously?" asked Amanda behind me.
"Girl?" asked the teen with the drone. "Rude. She's like thirty.'

Today's word is GIRL. Today's #BookQW from Direct Descendant (@dawbooks.bsky.social 2025) a cozy horror set in Northern Ontario, where the baked goods are French and the eldritch horrors are cuddly. Well, some of the baked goods. Actually, now I think of it, only some of the eldritch horrors...

The cover of the new ebook edition is the background, the tower and tentacles and Austin, a black and white cat, the two clearly visible pieces. The DAW cover for the COMPLETE KEEPER CHRONICLES, all three books in trade paperback and sometimes still available, is in the middle right. The new cover wrapped with caution tape is on the lower right.

When Austin refused to answer, Claire decided she'd won, tossed off her clothes, and got into a pair of cream-colored silk pajamas- standard operating procedure suggested night clothes suitable for appearing on the six o'clock news.

Today's word is COLOR. Today's quote from the new ebook edition of SUMMON THE KEEPER, a 1998 contemporary fantasy about people who close the holes between worlds and the cats who have to keep reminding them that the food bowl is empty. There's no point in saving the world if the cat is starving.

The cover for CE Murphy's urban fantasy (modern romantasy) novel HEART OF STONE depicts a stylized green and gold stained glass window against a deep green brick background. The title, centered in the window, has a faint heart outline behind it, and below it are two stained-glass gargoyles facing one another. Cover art and design by Fakel Barros Studio.

This series needs to get a lot more attention. I loved it. Krista even made the politics enthralling, and usually, I run screaming from politics. At least two of the characters have been living rent-free in my head for the last three years.
