Like if I thought I could get paid to read, I would.

I literally realized that I didn’t put in a relevant bit of character backstory recently because it just never came up.

I spend most of my free time reading. Even more than writing. A lot more that writing. Reading helps me understand what readers expect out of books and learn a lot of different perspectives very quickly. It gives me experiences I’d never acquire directly.

Also I love reading.

ProWritingAid is being weird... It keeps doing these "better phrase" suggestions in the Grammar report, and they're all worse than the original phrasing. Also, that's not grammar, that should be under the Style report. #amediting

Yeah…

I just couldn’t bring myself to pick it up again today. It would be impossible to go through the nuance of all my thoughts on it on Bluesky, but I just wasn’t as invested in it. The first book was a breath of fresh air to me and this one just wasn’t.

Everyone has different tastes though.

I mean, a lot of people liked it and I’m certainly not the end all and be all so you might want to just check it out from the library or something to see what you think.

I was into it even with its flaws until I put the book down over the weekend and my brain churned through its flaws.

lol. That’s the plan for this week’s chapter for sure.

It has some serious modern Moriarty vibes, and not in a good way... It's the type of oneupmanship that just ruins series for me. Like we saved the town? Next time we need to save the country, then the world, then the universe.

Sherlock Holmes didn't need that. Neither did this.

created a Mary Sue villain (who also can't seem to stop making mistakes), and couldn't seem to figure out how to make the investigators seem smart by comparison. Like at page 199, nothing we know about the villain was due to smarts on the investigators. It's all the villain fucking up...

Just DNF'd A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett. I swear it's like the author didn't have a clue what made book 1 work. A smart author would just try to replicate as much of book 1 as they could but not this guy.

Granted, this story isn't a mystery, but still... there ARE secrets. And they'll blow up their relationship when they come out.

Honestly, yes. I still haven't managed to go to one of those mystery dinner theatre things. Even bought tickets for one that was 1930s themed, but then it got canceled.

Like why can't I ever get invited to a dinner only to discover someone's been murdered? Is that too much to ask?

I mean, what else could you possibly want?
