Awful, but proof of how much GOTV and enthusiasm generally matters if this holds throughout the night. FWIW, so many in my circle who are usually decently politically aware entirely missed these locals being on, whereas I feel like Reform has been hyping up their voterbase for them.

Chart comparing demographic breakdowns from YouGov polls in April 2021 and April 2025.
The polling backdrop of the local elections - i.e., how they've shifted since these seats were last fought.
As in the GE last year, the Tories' collapse is more proportional than uniform - they've lost more where they were stronger - meaning their losses will be more severe.

I believe certain French political scientists saw this coming when they came up with theories of 'InsΓ©curitΓ© culturelle' (Cultural Insecurity) especially when it comes to a certain already self-denigrating / precarious white working class voterbase.

Guilty on 'wedded to STV' charge, and I think I'll die on that hill. Having Ireland (including even NI elections) across the water probably helps, haha.
For all the people who put it down as 'too complicated', I honestly think most in practice will find the 'just rank your options' mechanics easy.

The flaw in the Lord Ashcroft poll is it undersamples (after weighting) the least Reform-friendly parts of the seat by 21pts. And oversamples the most by 20pts.
The Gowy villages & Helsby make up 22% of the seat's electorate. But only... 1% of the poll's sample.

Finished a game of #Civ7 in the Antiquity Age. A lot of fun, but Initial thoughts:
The UI needs work: a lot of work
Civilopedia isnβt really helpful or properly interactive
I actually got stuck trying to make a trade route because I forgot how they work now (I legit thought the UI was bugged)

The crosstabs are certainly fascinating! Shoutout to Reform having the lowest Libertarian support in spite of seemingly having the loudest libertarian ideologues. I suspect this comes from the sheer discrepancy between it's leaders/wealthier supporters and the actual working class base's interests.

One of many examples of how distinct a niche Reform is, and why Tory leaders pivoting to Reform voters is such a bad idea for their future.

The brilliant artist Alphonse Mucha (who also has a great little museum in Prague) was commisioned for that distinctive art-nouvuae panel in 1931, which is very much in his style. Such a wonderful spot!

In the absence of anything better for my first post here, why not a cool shot or took I took from the Neon Museum in Warsaw (tbh, I think any shot from there will look cool).
