4/ Then I ran another adult sample this semester. We switched to free recall instead of recognition and BAM - classic animacy effect confirmed. (I have some interesting animacy sub-category effects and eye tracking data - another time). So how you test animate/inanimate memory matters. Stay tuned!

3/ The behavioral memory results are showing no animate/inanimate differences in correct recognition at either age. IN FACT (oddly), we found more false recognition for animate lures. I replicated this finding in a separate adult sample. We were left a little confused...

2/ Leslie wasn't interested in animacy at first - but she used a picture set with half animates and inanimates in her Rollins & Riggins (2013) Dev Sci paper, capturing ERPs during encoding. I took advantage of this fact! We're finding larger PSW to animates vs. objects in both children and adults.

#SRCD2025 recap: a data re-use story!

I've been exploring the "animacy effect" (we remember things that are alive more than inanimate objects). I realized Leslie Rollins "accidentally" collected neural data on this when we were in grad school together and we've been re-analyzing kid and adult ERPs.

Did I plan for #SRCD2025 ahead of time? No. Did I make cute Canva pics to plug my presentations? Also no. Did I print a poster on site? Yes. Did I have a great time? Also yes.

Let’s start the recap with the lab alumni! All PhDing or Post-docing (docking?) in amazing dev labs across the land β™₯οΈπŸ€“
