as someone with chronic illness and an invisible disability, getting my quality of life back is an uphill battle. i have yet to find a medical professional on my side that genuinely wants to help. i’m tired.

sorry for the rant. as mentioned, i see the privilege in free healthcare 100%, but it is still a flawed system.

but even when i did have a family doctor, it was a nightmare. when i asked about alternative birth control options when i was 25 (i’d been on oral contraceptive for 10 years at the time), he told me i was “demonizing hormones” and that it “doesn’t cause breast cancer”??? that’s not what i asked???

i don’t even have a primary care physician after living here for 2 years (i’m on the provincial list) because there just isn’t enough of them. so i go to urgent care and i’m treated like a burden and dismissed even after clearly communicating very real and life-altering issues.

i recognize that i have SO MUCH privilege to have healthcare at all, especially when it comes to life-saving medical care. but the preventative care is lacklustre - so many healthcare professionals are overworked and jaded, especially in urgent care/walk in clinic environments.

it’s so sad that the canadian healthcare system has led to me not even going to the doctor when i’m having health issues due to the lack of productivity and general care.
