I see how robber barons of the gilded age contributed to our current wealth disparity. I’m on team “no more billionaires.”

And yet I cheer on a fictional robber baron and his status obsessed wife. I pay a corporation to watch them.

Being alive today is such a weird conundrum…

A few years ago this memory flashed into my head while making coffee. Now my first cup of coffee always has a little cinnamon in the grounds. And most mornings I think of this man and hope he’s doing ok. Today is one of those days. Thanks cinnamon coffee guy!

More than 10 years ago, a simple conversation changed one small habit. I was buying flavored coffee grounds. The cashier and I were making small talk about how we liked our coffee. He added cinnamon to his coffee grounds before brewing. ⬇️

I went on a #ghost story tour of the Stanley Hotel over 20 years ago. On the tour, they said when #stephenking stayed in one of the especially haunted rooms, he was inspired to write The Shining. I still think about that room. I want to stay there for a week to finish my current book.

I don’t prefer Keurig #coffee and I try to avoid single use plastics. But I’ll always buy a box of Gloria Jean’s raspberry chocolate lava flavored coffee k cups when they show themselves to me.

Share your walking banana salad with a friend. If they eat it with a smile and thank you, don’t ever trust them again. If they tell you it’s dog shit and ask if you’ve lost your goddamn mind, trust them with your life.

I’ve heard people say that some of us ladies developed unrealistic expectations of romance from fairy tales. Not for me… it was Bo riding up on his motorcycle to save Hope from marrying Larry while Bonnie Tyler belted out Holding Out for a Hero.

On this app, I still feel like I walked into a party in full swing without really knowing anyone. I’ve made small talk with acquaintances and still feel awkward. So I’ll be weird like we’re in person - posting up with my #tarot deck offering free readings. What do you want to know tonight?

I don’t have anything clever to say in closing, just that I’m tired of feeling this way. If you are, too, tell me about something that helps you feel joy, beauty, or awesomeness so we can both have a little boost today. 🩵

And the chaos of the past couple of weeks in our country is bringing this to a head within me. I hate that powerful people prey on our fear to divide us. When we are divided, we look for things to be mad or scared about instead of looking for joy, beauty, and awesomeness. ⬇️

I’m now realizing that I’ve spent much of the past couple of decades living like the father in that situation. I’m so afraid of what could happen in this chaotic clusterfuck of a world that I miss out on the joy, the beauty, the awesomeness of day to day life. ⬇️

And I remember the peaceful concentration of the mother, the doctor, and the nurse. The delivery was the only thing in their control at that moment. When that perfectly healthy baby emerged, they expressed joy and excitement over the birth. The father tried to be joyful, but it was strained. ⬇️

I can still feel the fear wafting off of him. How could he protect her and their child from whatever was happening across the country? Was it going to happen here next? ⬇️

I vividly recall watching a baby being delivered while the muted television in the corner showed horrific news clips. The dad was holding his wife’s hand, his eyes bouncing between her and the TV. ⬇️

Arriving on the labor & delivery unit, I quickly realized it was real. My classmates’ faces were as white as our uniforms. The nurses began stoically hustling us to work. It didn’t matter what was going on outside those walls. ⬇️

I sat in a hot Arizona parking garage listening to radio reports of the tragedy unfolding on the east coast. It was so confusing - was this really happening? ⬇️

Obstetrics was my least favorite part of nursing school, and the rotation that taught me more than I realized at the time. One of my first clinical days was September 11, 2001. ⬇️

Glad I didn’t take that bet. I’m wracking my brain and can’t think of a single one!

A nice birch tree is outside my window. A papery strip of bark is flapping in the wind. I am having the same urge to peel it as when someone has peeling skin from a sunburn. The urge is so strong I’m actually contemplating climbing a tree when the wind is 36 mph with 55 mph gusts. Send help!!

Last night I was driving around in a pickup truck with Pedro Pascal. At one point, I successfully made a tight turn on an unpaved road. He put his hand on my knee and said “good girl.”

My favorite thing about myself? It has to be my unhinged dreams!! Can’t wait to go back to sleep tonight! 😆
