Ok, I gotta say. So. Damned. Tired. Of scrolling through my feed all about beekeeping and the vast majority of it is this Jason Statham movie. Jeez, grrrr and stuff. I'm here for beekeeping for fudge sake. Not some idiot action movie. There. Rant over.

Ha! I have the opposite. I show some people and they can't resist even when I'm there with them. Was the same as a kid with church bell ropes - I used to fantasize about jumping on them. The village would have thought the Germans are coming! Never did though, my dad would have skinned me, for sure

Just soaking up the landscape in your photo. Back in my traveling days I have fond memories of Morocco.

Wonderful. I have wild thyme on the hive property, but not enough to impact the honey. It would be nice to grow more. That and Russian sage.

Just occasionally I get a good idea. On one property I look after I've hit upon a solution for folk complaining I don't keep my phone on me on 4.5 ha / 11 ac of grounds. Can I call it a social media app with notifications? πŸ€ͺ

Incredible to see. I couldn't resist a Google to find out more. Over 3000 colonies of Sahara yellow bee held by a collective of 250 keepers. Flooded out twice in the 90s and they put it all back. Just amazing.

Very cool. Not seen that before. Many thanks for sharing.

This is the Apiary of Inzerki, in southern Morocco, the oldest traditional apiary in the world. It was established in the 16th century and is situated at an altitude of 1000ft where the bees have easy access to mountain flowers and herbs. The beehives within are woven from reeds.

The Magic Spells That Herded Medieval Bees For European beekeepers, β€œswarm charms” were once a tool of the trade.

paging @weirdmedieval.bsky.social

"These were magic spells once used by beekeepers across Europe to control and direct their precious honeybees and prevent them from flying off when they gathered into a swarm."

In my opinion, Mr. Barret should receive a knighthood, praise, admiration, and a lifetime of love and respect from the population of this planet. #beekeeping

Wait! Why am seeing bird's butts all over my feed lately? It's not that I mind, cos I love birdies, so many beautiful photos, but is this a "thing" going around (asking for a friend)

🌱 I was given one of these beautiful little solar lanterns. And I think I'm in love. Definitely going on my Christmas list. Want to get more to hang under a big magnolia tree. Check out sonnenglas.

I think I used the fattest one in the set. Probably a #10. But you do raise a good point for me - I hadn't thought about if there is an ideal hole size. Sounds like another Google rabbit hole to dive down πŸ˜ƒ

Thank you. I really enjoyed doing them. I got to use my favourite power drill too, and hours walking and dreaming looking for buckets of stuff. Great fun.

Candle making is such a pleasure, but somehow I always manage to forget how much of a real pain in the ass it is cleaning up afterwards. #beekeeping

Tidy simple setup. I want covers for my 2 as we haven't had a hard winter in years. Gotta be one coming and I shouldn't sit back on this. Do you put shims under the inner covers to help ventilate / prevent condensation? You use a top tray feeder or other arrangement?

Totally with you. We need a tactical beekeeper vest with straps and easy access dump pockets and dangly pouches, and no sweat furry lining, and quick access to tacos in case I get snacky. Hell yeah.

I WAS using a bucket for the tools and bits I need to work on the bee hives. Friend made a box out of wood scraps for what I need, and I spent a glorious 2 afternoons in the shade painting it. It's possible that from this moment henceforth I'll be addicted to stencils.
