Yep :D this all coming from my own thoughts on why I’m considered a particularly strong magic player while I’m also in the space of being competitive with PT regulars but don’t have a particularly impressive winrate/results over time

Magic skill is defined, almost unilaterally, by players performing rare, positive actions (which you commonly do in how you interface with your own limited play). Winrate is less commonly relevant because the social construct is disinterested in the negative action of losing games.

I agree, but, like, winning games isn't exceptionally part of the social construct that is magic skill. Winning games (winning many games, even) is a common practice that a vast number of players engage in.

So, instead, magic skill is socially defined by a series of practices which one can perform. In your case I think it's mostly that you perform deep limited analysis with reasonable accuracy, something which is valuable on a community level.

Metrics are flawed and skill is socially constructed. The results of magic games involve many, many factors which are virtually impossible to account for, even at large sample sizes, and the theoretical rankings one could derive by doing so aren't necessarily desirable at a community level.

I would rate myself a 7 or 8, my theory is pretty comprehensive and coherent/I can make the game system do things but I make many errors when actually playing.

I feel like the rate is only atrocious in the sense that expensive pure card draw is implicitly bad. If we lived in a world where spending turn 4+ exclusively drawing cards were an acceptable thing to do you could plausibly play 4-mana divination/6-mana refill your hand/8+ mana see much of your deck

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

It’s kind of complicated? The deck’s greatest strength is how fast it can pivot its posture during a given game and you often want to pivot multiple times over the course of a game. But you definitely care about tempo as a game mechanic perpetually.

Obviously there’s truth to this, but part of the goal is to signal that there’s meaningful value lost in treating it as a control deck
