'We’re a bunch of people
from Collingwood...

...who would love to enjoy a green, safe and pleasant
Wellington Street - and put an end to the thousands of cars
that rat-running through our neighbourhood.

The council put an end to rat running in Fitzroy years ago, but
Collingwood is still used as a short cut. Wellington Street can
get chockers full of bumper to bumper traffic at peak times,
filling the neighbourhood with air pollution, noise and
endangering pedestrians and cyclists.

So the Council has now proposed some design options (see
below) to stop this non-local traffic passing through, making it
a better street to walk, ride, play, and have a beer on.

It’s a great idea! You might have ideas for tweaks to the design
here and there, and that’s great. Let’s just agree to this
massive improvement in principle.

Let’s get this traffic out of our neighbourhood and make a
cleaner and safer street for all.'

Why did I see some of the e-scooters and e-bikes parked and taking up space in existing bike racks?

This was a deployment error that has now been resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Our trial features a parking model which is unique to Darebin and requires every e-scooter trip to begin and end in a designated parking bay. Users that don’t end their ride in a designated parking location will continue to be charged until they park the vehicle in a bay. We’ve carefully chosen the locations of these bays with safety and accessibility for other footpath and road users in mind.

Parking bays are installed on-road wherever possible, helping to keep footpaths clear and discouraging footpath riding by allowing trips to start on the road. There will be no loss of on-street car parking.

E-bikes can be parked outside of these designated locations within the trial area, but they must not obstruct footpaths and access and must be left in an upright position. This is enforced through an end-of-trip auditing feature on the smartphone app.

If you see an e-scooter or e-bike parked where it shouldn’t be, raise it directly with Lime by scanning the QR code on the vehicle or contacting Lime on 1800 861 305 or support-au@li.me

Bicycle counts significantly increased on
every corridor where we completed Better
Bike Lanes projects in 2024.
The number of people biking, and the percentage of all
traffic they make up, both saw substantial increases.
β–Έ We counted over 3,000 more daily bike trips, a
55% increase across all projects. In our prior
report on Better Bike Lane projects completed in
2023, we recorded a 44% increase in volume. The
latest projects appear to have tapped into even
more growth potential by focusing on mostly
arterial streets and closing key new network
connection gaps.
β–Έ Bicycles as a share of of all traffic increased to 7%
of daily traffic across all projects, nearly doubling
from 4% in the baseline condition. Some projects
saw bicycle mode share as high as 19%
β–Έ Boylston Street (Back Bay) topped the list with a
near doubling (+83%) of daily bike trips, leading
four other corridors that measured growth of
nearly 50% or more.
