Craven Dunnill Jackfield produced 70 different tiles: 11,835 hand-made encaustic in varying patterns and sizes, and 36,862 hand-cut geometric tiles plus lettering tiles in Pugin's typeface. Kevin Doonan Architects created the designs using traditional encaustic patterns from our archive catalogue; we then generated over 50 scaled CAD technical drawings, translating the design into a workable floor plan. The entire floor surface of the cathedral was reordered & retiled in 2009-10.

The work was based on designs in archive catalogues & Pugin’s typeface.

I'm celebrating half a century on this planet today and it's also #WorldWildlifeDay. I know there's a lot of darkness, but the world is still full of so much beauty. Let's celebrate it by sharing our favourite wildlife photos.

On this day in 2024, Eleanor Collins died.
Born in 1919 in Edmonton, she was known as Canada's First Lady of Jazz. She was the first Canadian woman and the first Black entertainer in Canada, to have her own national television show (The Eleanor Show in 1955).

Today is #WorldWildlifeDay and I have been fortunate to experience so many magic moments with wildlife. We need to continue to work towards protecting wildlife and the places that they call home.

Is this desert flower (sun cup, Camissonia sp.) small? Yes, under 2cm. Is this bee (maybe Lasioglossum sp.?) even smaller? Yes, 5-6mm (zoom in!). To get a blue sky background behind a plant under 15cm. tall, did I have to lie sideways on the ground and get sand in my ear? Also yes.
