This metaphor provides me with a great rebuttal to people saying stuff like, "Well, of COURSE you should double-check an AI summary against reliable sources" and "I would never use a LLM for anything life-or-death" and other "It's fine if you're super-careful about usage" excuses...

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Craven Dunnill Jackfield produced 70 different tiles: 11,835 hand-made encaustic in varying patterns and sizes, and 36,862 hand-cut geometric tiles plus lettering tiles in Pugin's typeface. Kevin Doonan Architects created the designs using traditional encaustic patterns from our archive catalogue; we then generated over 50 scaled CAD technical drawings, translating the design into a workable floor plan. The entire floor surface of the cathedral was reordered & retiled in 2009-10.

The work was based on designs in archive catalogues & Pugin’s typeface.
