We don't need monocultures

Making everything into an individual moral failing is an escape from having to confront how deeply, irrevocably sadistic and amoral many of the cultures and power structures of the United States actually are. One is an easy, self affirming accusation. The other confronts complicity.

There is not much I can offer anyone that’s useful except a pause in your doomscrolling to listen to a very happy loudly purring cat who has lived months longer than the vet thought he would.

Why don't we de-center white American voices, and center the Iranian (and diaspora) ones in this case? What do they have to say that might enlighten us instead of (as always) thinking we know everything about every situation?

Yes I know there’s people dying and bombs being dropped on school girls and probably a fishing boat being attacked off coast of Venezuela but this is happening too and I need to see and share life if I am to have any hope.

i don’t know much but i do know that if a country seriously opposes some other oppressive regime the very first thing they should do is open the doors to any and all refugees from said regime and support them fully to get out, get safe and settled, and become citizens.

This winter, we had hoped to see the large flocks that an irruption can bring, but that hasn’t happened.
