Realistically Burnham would have had to step down as mayor to run, and I can see that ending with the loss of an MP's seat and the loss of someone who seems to be a pretty well-liked mayor and has pushed through some good policies.

Cons are not your friends.

They are businesses that run off corporate frameworks. They must make money to survive. They will cut any risk to that, including you.

Maybe making it their entire existence is part of the issue, hmm.

One of the worst things about the scandals over the years is how that side of the internet got blown right into the mainstream, along with names of the sites and the dogwhistle words. Content like that isn't far off a cognitohazard.

Saying that better: I think there's definitely a "this is cool now" aspect and another that's a promise of easy fame with a fursuit, a camera, a friend and a couple of con tickets.

At the end of the day, the only people who know for sure are the people who were in the meeting. I just hope Beta's OK. This shit's awful.

Make it 100% clear that you're leaving it in the con's hands and just want the con to be as fun as it was every other year you've been.
If they're getting a lot of shit from people, a "hey I love your con" will stand out.
Maybe even ask how you can help keep the space positive.

From my experience on the con side of that - cons get so many "pls ban X" emails that they're usually deleted with no reply. Too many boiled down to bad breakup -> destroy.

If you want it to be read, open by saying how much you love the con, state only pure facts, and why you're worried.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I'll take the guy who likes wearing nappies (or a pup hood, or whatever) in his own time because it's a safety blanket over the guys who commit criminal acts against other people and are a genuine danger.

I would 100% understand if Beta said later on that he felt pressured into pulling out.
It's mealy-mouthed and corporate and worded to try to dismiss responsibility - I understand why - I see why they worded it that way - but I also have concerns it'll toxify the space and embolden this behaviour.
