Just as an addendum - the stealing art story coloured my view of the game entire , but actually was a small incident that shouldnβt detract from the real work everyone put in- the game art and design is very much its own thing and is great!

I didn't get the sense of something new and exciting - if anything, this is way too late to the party

You get the usual unknowable pile of slop items, but there are the more interesting disks that effect your characters stats and abilities
03.03.2026 10:37 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I like the concept of doing little solo runs to get loot and stuff, but the Rook not having better health/damage means you last about 2 seconds once you run into a team. And the ability to mask yourself from robot mobs has never worked with me so far
03.03.2026 10:37 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The option to play solo is there in form of the Rook character - great! - but the world is an empty one, & not being able to load out your Rook, as well as not being able to revive yourself, puts you at a great disadvantage - there just aren't any weapons lying around to survive encounters
03.03.2026 10:37 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0For me, it sacrifices a great style, and probably great story, to the altar of a 'forever game (until disconnected or cancelled)' - storyline is now relegated to menu screen text - at least Destiny wore the skin of its old story driven game over the bones of its multiplayer only gambling machine
03.03.2026 10:37 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Some missions require a bit of coordination with your randomly assigned teammates - unfortunate if, like me, you don't play with friends, or everyone online is a mewling teenager pumping unknowable noise garbage into their mic, so obviously muted that straight away
03.03.2026 10:37 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0While the levels are really nice, really detailed, & again, great vibe - the gameplay missions where you have to find specific things in certain areas are actually quite hard - the level of detail is just too high to ascertain what's a mission specific thing to interact with(at least for a beginner)

For the game itself- I'm not well acquainted with ex-fil type games, but do have experience with battle royals.
It's hard to say if it really brings anything to the table - it felt quite empty. The robot mobs have pretty good intelligence - but as the only enemy I encountered, were few & far between
Navigating the menu's themselves? Probably a little too incomprehensible - felt quite linear, like you had to go in a straight line through a bunch of menus to get faction rewards, rather than it being one click away from main menu

Marathon Overview - β¨Loved the out-of-game design/vibe - weird close-ups of characters, design had a retro strangeness to it that's quite refreshing. Moths scary. Liked the nod to neon evangelion graphic design - but knowing what we know now - it's probably more stolen than used intentionally.
