Tl;dr very good film with great music and costuming. Can't wait for the next one😮‍💨

Also, I feel like masculine garments can tend to pale in comparison to the feminine (one of the reasons I quite dislike dressing as a man in historical clothing), but the stylization of the masculine clothes was perfectly executed, as with Fiyero.

The costuming I adored. Every single part of it. Elphaba's black dresses were near perfect adaptations of the wicked witch's original looks. Quite a feat, as none of her original garments have actually survived, but they were very detailed in the wizard of Oz, the old film quality did little justice

The casting was great. I know there's a lot of drama regarding Ariana, and I get it. Her voice is PHENOMENAL but not for musicals. Her annunciation is not where it should be in order to get ideas across. Especially in a cinema setting where the speakers can drown out vocals.

Wicked was a good film. I don't know the story of Elphaba and watching that movie made me want to watch the full musical and rewatch the Wizard of Oz. I love the world that the author built and I think it lends itself very well to musicality.

Hiccup and Astrid did not need a romance subplot, they're kids a predominantly kids' media. It's something I talk about a lot with my partner, who is actually a writer, which I am not. Romance isn't always necessary, but if it's part of the overall story, it should not feel out of place.

Sometimes romance can feel contrived. Like it's just there to check a box. Specifically in fantasy, if it's done intentionally and not to fill a void, it can read as genuine for sure! An example of a contrived romance subplot would be in How to Train Your Dragon. 1/2
