Best guess is they wanted to make sure the plates could take a beating. The reignition line is definitely geared towards kids, and removing the void behind the plates could help prevent cracking from impacts

Well there's your problem. There's basically no clearance between the lens and plates when closed, and only 4mm clearance between the pcb and lens edge. I'll need to replace both the lens and the plates to improve the shape. Maybe even trim the pcb mounting section

It was such a mysterious game at the time, nobody quite knew where the series was going

I think most people who played the 1st game back in the day and got the secret ending fell in love with the dual wielding pair. I thought the colors clashed a bit, but it fits with the vibe of the series. Steel replicas are hard to find, but there are a lot of good prints out there on Etsy, etc

Sure, just let me know! I mainly do resin printing now, so adding small stuff to the print doesn't really take any extra time

Ah, the classic pair. I considered doing those back *checks notes* 8 years!? ago when I did the kingdom key, but it would have taken forever with the software I was using. Pretty sure there's good modes out there now, but they're also more manageable to model with my current setup

Yeah, I'd keep the ring the same size and just taper the outer edges down. I'll give you a shout if it works out

I'm almost done with the 91-93 reproduction plates. I think I may try to tinker around with some playmates replacement plates after that's done. The boxiness is really the big mark against it, which shouldn't be too hard to fix

There's a lot of variations to support and they all have their foibles. Kinda dreading the memorial dino buckler releasing and having to support yet one more standard
