i get why people are fighting book bans with โdonโt interfere with what i let my child readโ and โi demand books for my child that reflect *our* family values too,โ but itโs also about preserving some degree of autonomy *for the child*. The library should give a child an out *from* their family. ๐

A GOOD QUESTION. Remember the bigoted assholes here are *often* talking about parents rights. But apparently parents of trans kids don't have rights.
Working in a school, I see many people who do not see children as people. Children are property. They are accessories. Any child who is not white, cisgendered is seen as defective. It is heartbreaking and fills me with rage regularly.

Some comments are making me think people believe school libraries have the same materials at every level. Librarians know what is appropriate for their students. Itโs kind of our thing!
