ALL THAT being said, the tldr is- came for the romance, stayed for the nuanced story with the smooth jazz soundtrack. (?)

But if you made it this far and are curious- Zen was the first romance and Seven is the second.
And I kinda wish there was a “why choose option” bc I love them both sm. 6/6

Manages to handle and over come the obstacles. And sometimes the MC helps the LI overcome their inner demons, but sometimes the NPCs help each other through some stuff and honestly, I think that, more than anything else, makes this little visual novel game far more worth playing than the romance 5/6

There are really complicated, interesting and nuanced dynamics and relationships between all the characters, and it touches on some dark topics including but not limited to nihilism, self harm/unaliving, addiction, child abuse, corporate burnout and classism… and how each of the characters 4/6

10 days planning but he has yet to show up in my experience.
Also I’m fairly certain that the dead character is actually not dead… I have nothing but my own gut feeling to back this up.

There is also, I believe, some kind of religious cult- And I also think she’s a cult leader. 3/6

Right off the bat, a you’re told that a character unalived herself. There’s another shady character who appears like once on day 1, once on like day 6 or 7, and supposedly shows up to this “party” you spend 2/6

Okay I’m 10 days into my second playthrough of Mystic Messenger and I think I have figured out the romance mechanic.
That’s not what I’m here to talk about.
What I’m here to talk about is how DARK this story is??

The romance is cute, don’t get me wrong but I am INVESTED - 1/6

I started playing Mystic Messenger a few days ago… and I’m not really sure what I expected but what an interesting and unique game.
I’m still not 100% sure I understand how the “romance” mechanic works, tho. 😅
