Has EU immigration led to a new form of labour market protectionism? New research shows that immigration in the EU has led to a new form of protectionism that extends beyond borders into the workplace.

An analysis of Austria, Germany, Ireland & UK shows labour market restrictions for migrants are now increasingly common.

Representation matters for democracy. @omarhgallego.bsky.social, Katharina Lawall, @labouralexb.bsky.social and Isabelle McRae show how women, young people and minorities are underrepresented in local councils in London. The same was true of renters vs homeowners.

Labour’s latest immigration policy is counterproductive The Labour Government recently announced that those arriving by irregular means to the UK, even if they are legitimate refugees, will be barred from ever becoming British citizens. Omar Hammoud-Gal…

"In British politics, a familiar pattern has re-emerged: when politicians struggle to achieve any measurable targets, they resort to scapegoating the only population that lacks the power to vote them outβ€”migrants."

It was great seeing Angela Merkel yesterday talk about the rationale behind her decisions.

Regarding the 2015 refugee crisis she said that it's easy to talk about human dignity when it does not cost you anything.

Another when a million desperate people show up at your border.

A giant.
