I'm increasingly convinced that the LLM chatbot companies are not just naively optimistic. They haven't innovated or even iterated on the basic ideas of a language model. They're a cargo cult. They're just throwing resources at a thing they don't understand in the hope that it will become magic.

They've borrowed a legitimate term that they very clearly don't understand to describe a bug in their chatbot.

This is interesting in a couple of ways. The most disturbing to me is that it demonstrates a fairly basic lack of understanding of mathematics on the part of whoever coined it. An attractor in a dynamic system is not a state. It's an entire region of a solution space.
