Ah yes, I remember this day clearly, two months after I moved to Seattle for school.

I had just moved to Seattle for school. I was with some other PhD students on UW campus. We assumed at first it was just the old building doing its thing. My apartment was trashed, but fortunately only minor damage, just shelves falling over and stuff scattered. Wild intro to my new home!

Oh lovely! I met him once about 20 years ago as a brand new assistant prof. He was so warm and supportive; I remember feeling respected by this intellectual giant when others at the same conference dismissed me.
