An abbreviation (ABB) in a journal article (JA) or Grant Application (GA) is rarely worth the words it saves. Every ABB requires cognitive resources (CR) and at my age by the time I'm halfway through a JA or GA I no longer have the CR to remember what your ABB stood for.

Not to mention that excitation ~= excitation (particularly for slope of the aperiodic in EEG). My take is that receptor time constants matter. Makes a difference whether excitation is faster (AMPA) or considerably slower (NMDA) relative to inhibition (mostly GABA-A).

Multi-timescale reinforcement learning in the brain - Nature Individual dopaminergic neurons encode future rewards over distinct temporal horizons.

Two papers out today on RL in the dopaminergic neurons of the midbrain of mice (one from McGill's new PI @paulmasset.bsky.social). Both papers demonstrate heterogeneity in discount factors!

📄New paper from our lab @hhu.de on the role of dopamine in multi-attribute decision making. Increasing DA transmission (L-DOPA) increased, whereas D2 receptor blockade (Amisulpride) reduced the effect of individual attributes on choice.
