100%! there's room for learning to do some kinds of academic writing in grad school but in undergrad what you are teaching is a simulacra of academic writing when you could be teaching real forms of something else

yes! there is a place for neutral writing but that's when you have original knowledge and undergrads can't do that in the framework! not because they're not capable but because it's not what makes sense at that part
