that isn't actually the process behind what genai actually does, though. it doesnt take existing work and morph it. its a bit difficult to explain but it essentially uses algorithms it learned to detect patterns to make new art, similar to us processing reference images to make our own.

my take is this: genai can be used for fun and imagining concepts but it cannot be a substitute for your own work simply because it isn't good enough and lacks distinct human touches that make art unique.

how exactly would one work with their own energy source, run portable generators with batteries like your own car? also why use only datasets that consist of your own work? this is like restricting reference images to only your own drawings.

we can address how much energy each generation uses. some companies are reopening nuclear power plants to address these demands and we should have switched to nuclear power plants a long time ago. generation also does not use as much energy, what you're talking about is the training.

a lot of arguments and positions are not black and white. there is always nuance to them. genAI is one of them, it has plenty of acceptable uses but also plenty of unacceptable uses as well.

plus, the claims that it's bad for environment is entirely addressed at the data centers which is tied to our bad energy infrastructure. it has nothing to do with an individual generating an image of wario farting money. data centers also aren't only being used for ai, they're used for cloud as well
