Wrestling and superhero comics live in the same space:

-People dress up in pretty costumes
-Foes become friends and friends become foes
-Characters might end up being cancelled or killed
-Continuity might be good until someone decides to reboot the whole thing

I lost the plot again. It's been like this for 20yrs with this stry. Since I started posting on Bluesky I've been on a line edit of the original 32k words. I only managed maybe 500 new words before I pooped out a few weeks ago.

Just recognize in advance that he's banking on marches so that he can call them "riots" & call them "insurection." He's waiting on a chance to sick the dogs & hoses on us. So he can declare martial law. Watch A24's Civil War film to understand.

TIL that what I am writing can also be called "Superhero Prose." Novelization of comic book stories.

Taking in already published examples to help understand what works best for these stories as I continue to learn more about the technical aspects of writing a novel in general.

I really don’t have time for this, Lance thought. His surveillance of this gang was now at risk due to this moron’s presence. The men at the picnic table had obviously been aware of the idiot’s presence, judging by their regular glances in his direction as they played cards. It was only a matter of time before they confronted him. The problem was, that he needed them blissfully unaware that anyone was on their trail. With that condition compromised, his mission was about to hit a dead end. If they knew someone was watching them, they could hardly be counted on to lead Lance back to his own intended target; their handler. Ironically, he thought, Mr. Windbreaker here was about to hit a dead end of his own. He watched as the young man now attempted to leave the area by walking directly past the group, making himself an even more convenient target.

Of course, if that happened, the gang members’ suspicion might be quelled. If they knew they were being tracked and then believed they had taken out their tracker, that would leave his operation intact, right? Goddamnit, he thought, chiding himself for even considering allowing this idiot to become a useful idiot by way of becoming a dead idiot in a ditch. Once more he found himself closing his eyes and inhaling a deep, cleansing breath. It was the senseless death of someone he loved that had brought him back to so this so called superhero life. No matter how old and bitter he had become, he could not allow his mission to result in another senseless death. Allowing this amateur to get himself killed might further Lance’s agenda, but that was simply an unacceptable outcome.

Haven't touched my story in like, a week. Feels like I lost the thread again. I managed to kick off the next chapter/scene/phase of this book, but I hit a little wall, got distracted by real life and I'm struggling to get back on the horse again and just write :(

Now that I'm pushing 50 years old, most of those years are fuzzy, you know? I seem to recall the WIT sequels for sure, but I remember a book called Time Trap as well. When I was 12, I found the Watchmen graphic novel and well... things changed, lol

Without question, A Wrinkle In Time tops the list. First read to me by my 4th grade teacher. It set off a lifelong love of science fiction.

Here's the thing. The entire movie felt like it was a fever dream that Georgiou probably had the very first night she stepped into the Guardian portal. She probably woke up that next morning, shook her head, and said,"Wow, that was weird..."

Dehydration, syncope (fainting), strains and sprains, heart attack, and concussion ( that last one typically at concerts, which is where my current scene takes place.)

Just yesterday I found myself googling "What common injuries to EMTs treat at festivals?"

It occurs to me that while I'm a lifelong fan of Superheroes, I'm not a fan of actual comic books. While I enjoy seeing the occasional panel posted in my feeds, I have no urge to pick up a book and read it.

For me, the characters and the stories, not the art, compels me.

Novelization is my goal.

A literal human turd is going to fart all over a podium for an hour, and half the room will applaud thunderously for it.

I think what I'm getting is "compartmentalize," which makes sense. Your suggestion to use parenthesis kind of builds on what the other commenters are saying & I think I've been trying to tackle the writing in a strictly "linear" way & it's holding me back.

Thanks! It took me a bit to fully understand the setting because the story takes place in "early fall" & "outside." It finally occurred to me that this scene takes place close to halloween, which definitely helps set the esthetic, which is what I think you're describing. Thanks again!

It sounds like you're saying it's ok to write that first and go back to the opening of the chapter later when the inspiration strikes?

Stuck. I've got the next chapter setting & scene. I know the sequence of events & how they lead to a critical interaction between two of the main characters.

But I can't for the life of me find the opening sentence to even start it.

I've recently picked up a wip I've been messing with for a very long time & I was reminded of other characters in that universe that I always intended to write about too. I read an article this week exploring some prewriting strategies when I got hit w/some inspiration on one of those characters :)
