Here's an idea:

For every webinar/ blog post about how AI is going to save us all, there has to be one of an equal length explaining how both the data and analytical infrastructure are nowhere near adequate to support the former aim and what to do about it

This is a great thread with lots of lessons for digital and data in government (that absolutely no one with any power is interested in learning)

NHS data science salaries don't compete with the private sector. But I'm lucky that lots of people want to work in the NHS because they love it, just like I do (also on the same payscale πŸ™‚)

It's funny, when programming we have DRY- don't repeat yourself.

But honestly, when you're talking to non data scientists about data science and your work, it's more like DRY- do repeat yourself.

Often people need a couple of goes before they understand something, but when they do, they get it ++

Met accidentally reveals names of alleged Westminster β€˜honeytrap’ victims Police officer inadvertently disclosed identities and contact details in email update to alleged victims

Oh look, a data breach.

Is it caused by R? Or Python perhaps? GitHub?

No, it's email, that thing every employee has.

You remember that one that was caused by R/ Python/ GitHub though?

Me neither

Still at #NHSRPySoc.

Still hearing too many stories where analysts learn and succeed in spite of their jobs, not because of them

Hi, can you help me? I want to develop a model that makes risk predictions.

Use logistic regression.

Can I use some more modern techniques, like AI?

Use a neural network with single non-hidden feed forward layer that outputs to a single dimension using a sigmoid activation function.

At #NHSRPySoc and thinking for the quadrillionth time that a sane NHS would make sure that data scientists have somewhere to deploy their projects so they can show them to interested parties.

Tiny investment, massive benefit

Bluesky seems to be getting busier these days which is nice. I joined ages ago but never really saw anyone I know.

I'm not very good at social media these days, I do still blog occasionally here chrisbeeley.github.io/chris_beeley... and will try to join in on here when I can

Discuss your class's needs with your scientist, and pick a time to chat". It's light blue and dark blue and has a little test tube, DNA strand, and microscope and our logo
