i’ve seen this twice and still my brain somehow expects “3d tetris cabinet shuffle” to be a political reference.
i look forward to a time when a very sarcastic “4d chess” exits north american idiom

desktop apps for win/linux/mac to complement my existing mobile apps and browser extensions.
it's just a silly little bookmarking app/service.
ok, well isn't *this* funny timing:
help.obsidian.md/sync/headless
my (very) dumb immutable + local-first bookmarks thing currently has a headless sync daemon. i was just about to kill it off.
would you want a headless daemon to sync your bookmarks (between devices) all the time for you?
i would really like someone to talk me out of that by telling me what a great cross-platform native desktop hacking experience they had recently in... something that's not a browser.

google keeps dark patterning me to set one up for gcp and chrome web store console … and as long as i’m on my toes, i will do my best to avoid it.
i’ve set up a couple passkeys by mistake before (amazon’s “you want this, right?” got me) and they are broken everywhere i’ve been forced to use them.

i'm not sure *how* but i guess all the hubbub about the new ceo didn't seem "real"? this caught me off guard
thankfully the other box is debian stable and by the time forky is released the industry will be over this garbage ✨

Our leadership is plagued by false promises of "intelligence". The company you once knew as a prolific OSS contributor no longer exists.

it makes sense when i think about it, i guess... i hate "log in with google/github/apple/whatever". but i know it's a thing folks do, so i guess i'll support it. if i must.
if you "log in with google", by choice, would you be offended if an app asked you to sync by qr code?
ok, so 3 alpha testers have requested oauth2 *on a phone* this week... including my mom. ;)
oauth2 people: is this a thing you do? you want to log into an app on your phone with the same oauth provider you use for a service?
i never use oauth2 unless a website forces me, so i'm ignorant.

this was possibly the best lofi meetup i've attended yet. great set of speakers.
brendan's talk, in particular, was an absolute firehose of information. very fun and makes me even more excited about iroh. ❤️
recording is here:

irc is (and was always) what happens when implementation details are basically just barfed all over the entire ux
if you can find a windows machine, try out mirc. it was the “standard” client in the 90s and it’s, uh, kind of a trip
though it would be appreciated, you don't actually have to test. i just need the installs, baby. THE INSTALLS

(email or dm) ... send me your google email tied to your play store account, since that's what google will expect.
the app is open source, immutable, local-first, offline-first, and self-host-able (if you want to run your own backup/search server), but there's a central server so you don't have to
hi frens. i've been making a very silly little bookmarking app for a few weeks now. the play store apparently now requires *twelve* active (closed) testers for two weeks before i'm allowed to push this dumb little thing to prod.
if you're willing to install it on an android device, please email me.
the lofi/34 meetup on tuesday will be a good one. lofi.so
* kleppmann on geopolitics
* nate hardt, behind footnote.wiki
* brendan o'brian from n0.computer, the folks behind iroh
i'm probably most excited about o'brian's talk, but all 3 of these should be bangers.

a "greyed out" save button icon that's actually blue tinted because apple is horrible at GUIs
i have a question for people who actually use safari for some reason:
is this normal? do you expect safari to tint your icons, and would you understand that this blue Save Button icon is actually "greyed out"?
maybe codeberg/forgejo will save us

jamie brandon once suggested the term "over-the-wall open source" to me, long before slop patches were a thing. i liked the idea then & i like it now.
when 98% of open source projects consist of one or two dedicated hackers anyway, maybe the "community" of open contrib is optional.
just a thought.
