My grandparents were all born here too! It's the great-grandparents who immigrated (or in one case the great-greats.) Mom's side is Hungarian (from Pest) and Dad's is Russian or Belorussian depending on where the border is (Minsk-ish).

I wouldn't say I come from rugged folks as much as I come from brilliant, ambitious, and determined ones.

(... Russian and Hungarian Jews who came to the US in the early 1900s. I am proud of my ancestors.)

On my dad's side, my grandpa was a professor of chemistry at SUNY Buffalo (and worked on the uranium-chemistry side of the Manhattan Project).

On my mom's side, my grandpa paved much of Ohio, went broke in the 70's oil crisis, and became a NYC lawyer in his 40s.

They voted to gut the state’s climate law, and are on track to lose their election tonight.

In my personal capacity (not an organizational endorsement of any kind) - I think Representative McQueen will be a magnificent Land Commissioner for New Mexico, and am planning to vote for him myself.

You go to the governor, and you say, β€˜Hey, Governor, you have this problem. Utilities want business as usual. The innovators want to deploy their innovations. What is your opinion on how we get through this?’ And she’s like, β€˜I don’t have any expertise in this area. Don’t make me make the decision.’ And you’re like, β€˜Great, you’ve got Doreen Harris that runs nyserda. Why don’t you outsource it to her? She’s super smart.’ And Doreen is like, β€˜We do research and development. We don’t want to make those decisions at nyserda.’ And then you’ve got Rory Christian running the Public Service Commission. And Rory is like, β€˜I don’t want to make that decision either. I’m going to relegate it to the staff of the New York Public Service Commission. New York Public Service Commission’s like, β€˜Well, we think everything should go much more slowly.’

Sadly, it is an appropriate time to re-up this thread.

Among all the other terrible things about this war, gasoline is about to become much more expensive for families that have been give too few alternatives.

Here's how state lawmakers can help.

why is the actual financial market replaying the end bit of @maxgladstone.bsky.social's DEAD HAND RULE, except without the vague hope of Kai Pohala/Tara Abernathy/Elayne Kevarian figuring out how to stop the vampiric draw orchestrated by forever-growth monstrosities

(btw, read Max's books)

I continue to love Climate Cabinet’s approach to reimagining the world as it will be with universal consideration of climate in the policies that underpin people’s daily lives.

I did so mean.

Fragmentary, elusive, collectable, only meaning-bearing with substantial context. This is what I like out of video clips. πŸ˜†
