Double celebration at Surrey Uni on Friday: the local launch of my new book 'Can We Be Great Again?' and accepting the great honour of being a Visiting Professor. Thank you Professor Tim Dunne and his team for an uplifting evening and some brilliant questions!

19.05.2025 15:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Getting an LPA is a really complicated process - could it not be made simpler with something like the NHS App (which as it happened I started when I was Health Secretary)? It sounds a really smart idea which I will raise with the Justice Secretary.

That is a ridiculous delay so I am going to intervene with Surrey County Council. I then spoke to a Godalming resident about failures by the Office of the Public Guardian over the way legal powers of attorneys work and how they regulate them.

My first call was to a Witley parent who has battled to get appropriate education for her 12 year old daughter. She has now been signed off as not being able to be educated at school (following a tribunal) but having won the case in November still nothing has happened.
Totally inspiring that Ed and Jamie, two great friends of my brother, are journeying from the Great Wall of China to Paris in a classic car to raise funds for Sarcoma UK. Charlie would be so proud!

This is an issue I worked hard to improve as Health Secretary and is heartbreaking to hear it is still going on. Finally sorting the issue out is a major theme of my campaigning in parliament with the All Party Patient Safety Group.
12.05.2025 09:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I then spoke to a Farncombe resident about the same issue - and also an issue about an NHS hospital not being open about failures in care.

My first call was to a Shere resident about the assisted dying bill. Her concern was choice: having seen her mother die a very painful death she felt strongly people should have more choice over their final days.
20 years ago yesterday I became an MP. Over 11 years in the Cabinet I must have done many things my constituents disagreed with but with the best of British tolerance they have stuck with me through thick and thin. I just want to say thank you! Every minute has been a privilege.
06.05.2025 15:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Rowleys is a brilliant community centre but being badly treated by Waverley which is cutting its grant so savagely it may end up closing. I have become a patron to support it and we all need to rally to its support: on Friday it was packed! Keep up your superb work for older people.
06.05.2025 09:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As we remember VE day, I think of my late Dad who served in the Royal Navy most of his life. His service - and my grandfather in WW2 and his brother who we lost in WW1 - is a lifelong inspiration. Thank you for giving us the freedoms we take for granted today and RIP.
05.05.2025 12:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I want to give a shout out to the amazing Martin Cosser who lost his son Charlie to an appalling knife crime in 2023.
