Severin is bringing out a Suzzanna box set?! Shut up and take my money.

#nowwatching Ted Bunny (2026). A documentary crew set out to interview one of Ted Bundy's surviving victims, and get more than they bargained for. No idea how the bunny aspect is going to be worked in, but I have a feeling this is all going to be in terrible taste. #horrorsky

A pretty standard horror of the time, but well shot and with the regular appearance of a creepy dead girl. I liked it!

#justwatched Dementia 13 (1963), a horror thriller in which a woman goes to try and sneak her way into her mother-in-law's will. The first film directed by Francies Ford Coppola! #horrorsky

Thanks! I've never heard of The Rezort - I love Land of the Dead, and don't even mind Diary or Survival, so I'll definitely try and track it down! The Battery is great, but leaned just a bit too far into "this is really about the people" territory for my tastes.

Both great films! But a little different from what I'm thinking of...

I need to check this movie out! The episode was great - definitely got me interested in the film.

A few come to mind - The Dead, Wormwood, Cargo, etc. There must have been some diamonds in the rough that I missed though!

What are the best 'Romero-style' zombie films of the last 20 years? We've had loads of zombie films in that time - loads of *great* zombie films, in fact - but not many that feel like classic 'base-under-siege slow-moving hordes-of-zombies'-type films. Any recs #horrorsky?

Red Dwarf was never the same without him (though it still had a couple of decent Grant-less series). Did you ever read his novels? I've got an urge to revisit Colony...

Despite being a vegan, I'm not hugely upset by the deaths of insects (I tend to subscribe to a 'sliding-scale of sentience' perspective), but I still fundamentally object to animals being killed for entertainment. There's some entertaining gore and grossness, but I can't recommend this.

#nowwatching The Nest (1988). I'm in the mood for some 80s trash, and trash attracts roaches... #horrorsky

Oh, also this movie has a lot of blackface and orientalism. I mean, that's not exactly a shock, but it's definitely another strike against it. Would I recommend this movie? ...no. It's completely inessential. Not awful, but your time could be spent a thousand other ways.

One fun part is seeing all the men completely entranced by Pola Negri's "exotic" dancing, when she looks like me trying to do yoga as rehabilitation for a back injury.

"And when she dances-!", indeed.

A few horror elements here and there, but (as predicted) mainly a sort of adventure/melodrama with a handful of mildly spooky elements. Not 'bad' per se, but rather sedate and unremarkable. If you're interested in silent horror, there's a lot of much better and more relevant stuff out there.

#nowwatching The Eyes of the Mummy (1919), a horror/fantasy/drama about a young painter who takes a trip to Egypt and learns of an ancient curse. Lots of these old 'horror' films turn out to be more adventure or drama than anything else, but we'll see... #horrorsky

A very nice bit of folk horror, smartly scripted and with a sustained build-up of tension. The finale falls a bit flat (especially after the frenzied scenes that precede it), but Joan Fontaine and Kay Walsh give terrific performances. The story gives plenty of hints, without giving too much away.

I liked the conceit of this film, and it was cleverly written and structured. It didn't hang together quite as well as it needed to, and had some cheap effects and ropey performances, but it was ambitious and original and that's more than you can say about most things in the genre!

Not seen that, but it sounds similar! I think this one is taking itself a bit more seriously though.

I've been away at a conference for a couple of days talking about Marxism and anthropology and stuff. Anyway, I'm back home and #nowwatching Transmission (2023), a little indie film that sounds promising! Not sure about the story, but it's structured like someone channel-surfing. #horrorsky

Ooh, the combination of FPS and Mermaid Legend has me intrigued... Does it live up to either of those?

Well, this had a legitimately creepy atmosphere and managed to deliver a few decent scares. Unfortunately, the story was (like in many of these films) unnecessarily convoluted and relied on the characters making seriously counterintuitive decisions. I rate it 5/10 (which isn't bad for a FF movie).

#nowwatching Don't Peek (2025), a found footage film about a youtuber couple investigating a stash of mysterious videotapes. So far the couple are convincing me as YouTubers, though less so in the 'candid' portions. #horrorsky
