Math professor. Crypto skeptic. I wrote the textbook about the game theory of Bitcoin. Bluesky is the worse social media space, except of course, all the other ones

Next, you're gonna tell me that that anti spyware pop-up that I let install itself on my computer is secretly spyware.

To be fair, chokepoint was not imagined, authorities openly made a decision to do "regulation by engagement" a completely reasonable way to deal with an industry full of rapidly morphing shit.

The key insight Nic had was that the government openly doing their job was actually a conspiracy

You could save money on editing by just having people predict what the next article is gonna be and then you know let the market decide

Yeah, he doesn't strike me as a big into David Graeber. I think he just gets something out of separating himself from said 40W crypto chuds

Turns out "markets exist at the pleasure of the government" didn't go over too well on crypto twitter. He turned off replies.

The left needs to step up its signaling game and make it clear that we will do more than just do this whole smug "we told you he was going to do this OMG I'm just so exasperated" thing. This is genuine blood of patriots and tyrants territory.

Not in foreseeable future. There are many miners would get low cost (sometimes negative cost for short periods) energy and they have already paid for ASICs. They may be losing money long term in interest on the equipment, but by that time difficulty will adjust way downward

24.02.2026 23:07 — 👍 5    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

Yes and because some miners have near zero marginal cost, they will continue to produce blocks. Difficulty will adjust to the pace at which they are producing blocks.

So only the profitable folks continue to mine, and it keeps going.

Guys. The difficulty adjusts automatically. That how the thing works.

Sorry to be that guy but you do all know that the difficulty adjusts automatically, right?

Predicting now that a certain segment of Bluesky is going to predictably lose their minds over the fact that prediction markets are going to be useful , and try to gaslight like they deny that LLMs are use useful tools.

Of course prediction markets will be tools of some horrible people.

The problem remains that the media more or less has to give their audience what their audience wants. And you're lying if you haven't thought about 2028 and who might the viable candidates be and the only place to really check that against reality is Polymarket.

Watching crypto, AI, etc develop over the last decade according to the perversions of neoliberalism the whole thing feels prescient - like how about the story when they reinvented the phone call because iooksmaxing AI avatars lacked authenticity?

20.02.2026 16:53 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

So much easier for billionaires to select their candidates before the primary stage by getting the media to cover the "clearly the consensus front runner"
