I love the character designs in Tomato Adventure. They definitely have a similar appeal to characters from the Mario & Luigi series or Kirby.

Snippet of Javascript code from pixelframe's "Pokopia Font Logo Generator", as embedded in the HTML document. The code is standard non-AI image manipulation, handling the resizing of the background "Ditto Blob" of the Pokopia logo.

Fortunately it seems to NOT be AI.

This tool runs entirely "locally" in your browser, the image generation is written in Javascript. (Whether they used AI in writing that code, I cannot tell. That is a whole different mess though.)

I know the “muh 3D Mario to unite the community” crowd who only play like 5 games probably hated the Indie World but I thought it was pretty solid, there were actually some games that I recognized. It’s nice to see that more devs have Switch 2 dev kits now.

It’s crazy that people are jumping to conclusions about the Galaxy/Pokopia logo generator being AI when it very clearly isn’t. These font/logo generators have been a thing long before gen AI. While I hate gen AI, I think people should call it out more responsibly rather than fear mongering.

Y'know, it's pretty cool to see composers getting the recognition. If only there were more opportunities for composers to share the process and what the soundtracks/background music mean to them.

Honestly, I think the next game will likely use this style considering how this series is known for reusing assets or sprite styles between games. This could possibly be a Color Splash to TOK situation where it uses higher-res, uncompressed, or altered versions of the previous game's sprites.

And on top of the new NPCs, concept art, and designs used in posters/portraits, almost every character in the game has new poses and expressions. So I definitely think they are capable of creating a new game from the ground up in this style.

I've seen some people mention that it's unlikely that we'd get a new Paper Mario game with TTYD-style character designs because the artists who worked on TTYD aren't involved with the series anymore but we have proof that the modern artists are clearly capable of creating designs within that style.

Another thing is that I think it would make sense for them to go back to the rigged characters considering how it's higher resolution, more efficient for development (time/effort doesn't need to be spent making individual frames), and more expressive (if the TTYD Remake was any indication).

Fun fact: Every single Mario sprite from the Paper Mario series can fit onto the sign of that one large Blooper sprite from Origami King (which is the largest individual sprite in the Paper Mario series)

I hope people view Nintendo releasing a good game on a key-card as a wake up call rather than view the criticism towards it as a personal attack against their game
