Just a little bit of etymology for a Tuesday evening. Always important to be able to find the library (or bookshop) whatever the language!

I think it’s so helpful to frame instruction in terms of Tiers. When we do this we realise that providing whole class instruction in the form of levelled groups is skipping Tier 1 entirely and moving everyone in the class straight to Tier 2. It places a ceiling on student’s achievement straight away

Bookvent 2024 is off to a flying start. I could not be happier that The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey was the first selected at random. I love them all, but some just are in a different league.

The word bug has truly hit us. An A to Z retrieval activity generated a question about the etymology of X-ray. One quick google later and we had our answer.

Exploring confection in morphology led to children wondering about the etymology of confetti and if the two were related. They felt it was Italian because of the illegal i at the end. Right on both accounts! Confetti was originally small sweets thrown during Italian carnivals.
