People like to think that outfits in the past were drab or dull, but past eras had a love of color that could rival today. This gown is made of silk taffeta, dyed with weld, a natural dye that produces a bright, clear yellow from a compound called

17.11.2024 17:42 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0New antique! I recently bought this (damaged) antique 1850s dress and it's absolutely stunning. The fabric is gorgeous; so soft. It's entirely handsewn and features the beautiful 1850s silhouette I adore with its wide neckline and large bell skirt. Very happy to own this piece of history!

28.10.2024 06:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Some natural form beauty today! I think it's the most elegant era within Victorian fashion. The elongated bodies with mermaid's tail trains and the recently introduced princess line dress resulted in a beautiful few years.

26.10.2024 09:53 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A fashion plate from 1868. This was right at the beginning of the soft bustle era, when the fashion for piling one's skirts at the back of the dress and wearing an elliptical crinoline resulted in the first real bustle being worn. The era lasted into the mid 1870s.

25.10.2024 14:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The 1850s is my favourite fashion decade! I love the pagoda sleeves, the shape of the skirts, the flounced overskirts and the entire vibe. The Louis XV style which was revived in this decade is absolutely gorgeous, lending Georgian extravagance and pastels to the Victorian era.
25.10.2024 13:48 โ ๐ 22 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0(Character limit) Radical dress was also, as the name suggests, a radical fashion movement with its origins as far back as the 1850s.
25.10.2024 11:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In the 1890s when cycling became a popular pastime for women, radical dress (left) was one of the ways women would dress so they could cycle easily and still preserve modesty and femininity. Opinions on it were mixed- some thought it was a great idea; others said it looked ridiculous!
