What happens when your work takes you to 20+ cycling races in one summer, sometimes as the coffee guy, other times as the photographer, and often both?

What’s your dream location for brewing #coffeeoutside?

Mountains? Desert? Pine forest after a night of rain?

We’ve brewed on dusty roads, at foggy trailheads, and in alpine meadows miles from the nearest outlet. And every time, that first sip tastes different.

That was my recent experience exploring SE Arizona.

What a summer! It's been a whirlwind past few months. I either served coffee or shot photos (or both) at 20 races, including gravel, mountain, and road cycling events.

The year is far from done, with more upcoming races between now and the end of the year.

Dig days feel better with coffee, especially when it’s brewed trailside.

I’ve served Loam Coffee at trail building events, and it’s one of my favorites. Coffee creates a rhythm. It slows people down before they pick up tools and gives everyone a shared moment. https://www.loamcoffee.com/book-nacho

Serving coffee to 200+ racers at sunrise? It’s controlled chaos, and I love it.

Every race is a little different. Some mornings I’m up at 4:30am with a line of 30 people by 5:30. Other times, I’m posted up near the start line, slinging brews between high-fives and last-minute tire checks.

At LOAM, I roast and serve single-origin brews designed for early mornings in wild places. Whether it’s a gravel race, trail work party, or festival tucked deep in the woods, I bring the warmth, literally & figuratively. If you’re organizing an event and want coffee with a bit of soul, I’m your guy.

Rolled out something new at Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder: our latest single-origin roast, Ethiopia Aba Bulgu.

Like I shared back in April, I’m roasting one coffee at a time. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

I’m not just here to sling caffeine.

I roast and serve camp-to-race coffee for riders, racers, trail builders, and wanderers chasing early starts, big days, and quiet moments before it all begins.

It’s the cup brewed at the trailhead.
The pourover before the dig.
The ritual that anchors the ride.

Burritos, Brews, and Backroads: Life on the Road Serving Coffee at Cascade Gravel — Loam Coffee Life on the road with Loam Coffee means Diet Mountain Dew, mountain views, and early mornings brewing for racers. This behind-the-scenes story from Cascade Gravel captures the rhythm of serving coffee at cycling events—complete with gas station burritos and country music.

This past weekend, I was out at Cascade Gravel in Sisters, OR, fueling riders before they hit the course. But like always, the story starts long before the first cup is poured.

From Gas Station to Trailhead: Making Specialty Coffee Less Complicated — Loam Coffee Let’s be honest: most people aren’t drinking espresso pulled from a $20,000 machine, let alone a $1,000-$2,000 machine at home. They’re not measuring water temperature or timing the bloom. They’re gra...

Let’s be real: most people aren’t brewing with scales and gooseneck kettles. They’re grabbing a cup on the way out the door, at a gravel race, or from a roadside diner before the next big ride.

And honestly? That’s part of the magic. www.loamcoffee.com/articles/202...

There’s no “right” way to brew coffee.

Whether it’s a $20 thrift store drip machine or a $120 hand grinder and a pourover setup, the best way is your way.

Milk? Sweetener? Go for it.
Straight black? Perfect.

Coffee should be enjoyable, not intimidating. Drink it how you like it.

Why I’m Slowing Down Loam Coffee to Serve Something More Meaningful — Loam Coffee Loam Coffee is shifting gears. After stepping back from online sales, Sean Benesh shares how the brand is finding new life serving coffee at cycling events. It’s about connection, not just caffeine—one cup, one ride, one story at a time.

For a while now, I’ve been rethinking what Loam Coffee means—and where it’s headed. What started as an online coffee brand has quietly evolved into something more rooted, more relational, and a lot more fun.

Read what’s next for Loam Coffee.

Pain, gravel, and coffee. I’ve been quiet here for a bit—took a little break while out on the road shooting photos at a bunch of gravel and MTB races. But now it’s time to fire things back up. Back on the bike. Back slinging trailhead brews. Loam Coffee is rolling again—one cup, one climb at a time.

The new Ethiopia Senna Katta Mountain roast is here—but not for long.
This is a one-bag-at-a-time kind of adventure. When it’s gone, it’s gone gone. No restocks. No second chances.

We’re rolling with one origin at a time.
It’s part of the fun—and part of the challenge: https://bit.ly/44dYAd3

Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had wasn’t from a shop — it was brewed out in the wild.

There’s just something about drinking coffee outdoors. Maybe it’s the fresh air. Maybe it’s the stories shared around a pre-race cup of coffee. Or maybe it’s the simplicity of it all.

One Coffee, One Ride at a Time — Loam Coffee I’ve always believed coffee should match the moment. Whether it’s a quiet sunrise pourover before a ride or a post-race espresso from the back of Nacho the Van, every cup tells a story. Right now, I’m excited to share the next chapter of that story:  Ethiopia Senna Katta Mountain .&nbs

But here's the real news: I’m trying something different.
