Bed of chard and kale still going strong at the end of October. We have a fantastic long growing season here in Sonoma County.

In this year, there have been 990 patients with confirmed cases of bird flu across 25 countries. 475 of those folks have died. Which is a 48% case fatality rate. If this virus acquires the ability to jump from human to human, Covid’s 1% CFR will totally pale in comparison

18th book of 2025…. Now that the semester has ramped back up my fun reading has slowed a bit but still sneaking it in- keep 1 book in the car, 1 next to the bed, 1 at my office. Finally finished this second book in the All Souls Trilogy: very enjoyable, not quite as much as the first imho #booksky

‘We have to tell the whole story’: Jon Meacham takes down Trump’s censorship of Smithsonian museums Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham says when it comes to American history “we need to tell the whole story.” But Donald Trump is pushing to erase the parts that don’t align with his vision. This past week he ordered a "comprehensive internal review of selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions," and to remove anything his administration deems as “improper ideology.” In response, Meacham posed the question: “Is recognizing a national mistake and talking about its rectification and its ongoing need for attention and care, -- is that in alignment [with Trump’s agenda]?” He says having Trump appointees make these calls could become a slippery slope.
