Any water damage to it? Might've been to lift it above if there's a leak or the drain backs up. Maybe a poorly thought out temperature or sound insulator?

I got into so much trouble after I installed it on my high school's print server... 😅 Taught one friend how to telnet into it from the library PCs, then everyone was using study hall time to play it

Also, I have no idea how people actually enjoy living and working here... I'm just a dude from the Midwest, but $10 for a simple coffee and the constant barrage of noise and people is just too much.

I will say, one benefit to iLok is that I wiped my PC and it was nice to cherry pick in a UI what plugins I really needed to reinstall versus all the crap I've collected over the years. Wish someone had figured out a Steam for VSTs but instead it's a pile of half baked vendor apps.

Just tried to make the Linux switch... Had one issue I couldn't workaround. HP locks their laptop fan controls to their Windows app. My CPU was hitting 80 C and overheating building code and the fans never kicked on. Had to switch back to Win11.

Software dev here, the cons are enormous. People at my job are on the hype train expecting huge productivity boosts, but have no idea how much extra work it is to fix AI slop code. Thank God for human code reviews to catch the crap it adds in. And now there's open hostility to it from my peers

Well, the 2025 Linux Experiment is over because of heat... My HP laptop has a proprietary fan control lock. Anytime I run something intensive in Linux my temps reach dangerous levels and the fans never kick on. Tried a bunch of apps & scripts, no success, and this is a deal breaker. Back to Win11

Was weird the first few times, but it's way better than missing out on a cool experience just because my wife's music tastes are different. My biggest issue is when the concert starts at 7 but the headliner doesn't go on stage until midnight. 😁

And for those curious I've tried Fedora, Fedora KDE, Ubuntu, and Kubuntu. I might give Mint a try just to see if I can get my setup to work. My patience is about gone so I think I'll just avoid Arch and Omarchy.

Trying to switch from Windows to various Linux distros has been a nightmare... Apparently having a thunderbolt dock, multiple monitors on HDMI & DP ports, and an NVidia GPU is a step too far for the development tailored distros...

I've been thinking about how the Internet keeps trying to return to well curated communities. Discord and Reddit being the current trend. The same problems keep wrecking them though... bots, ads, misinformation, trolls. Maybe people will get fed up and start self-hosting IRC servers again.

Finally hit my fed up point with Windows and Google... Whatever update Win11 got last week has been a stability nightmare for my PC, and I am tired of all the Gemini/ AI crap. Installing Fedora Linux tonight but haven't found a "clean" Gmail service alternative. Any recommendations out there?

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Was just talking to my coworkers about that earlier today. Very similar situation and push back happening where I work. Managers seemed to be enamored with LLMs since they make their jobs easier but don't understand that it's not 1:1 for dev work, no matter what the tech companies boast

The Bessey knock offs at Harbor Freight are a decent alternative. Plus they're cheap enough I don't mind if I accidentally get glue on them. 😅. Worst choice I made was pipe clamps... the iron reacts with the glue and can cause black marks that'll a pain to sand off
