Every time I meet someone and they learn that I am in transportation, they say “you need to fix congestion on so and so road”.

Every time my response is the same: “I have the solution, you just won’t like it.”

But our Ministry of Health based the schedule on that at the time, and then the govt gave up, removed masking from schools and health centres, didn’t mandate IAQ, and really who cares about kids’ health anyway?!?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

That is a great question for the previous Labour govt, who parked on an early study saying one dose gave good protection.*

NZ kids aged 5-15 get one dose. Not one dose per year, just one dose. Then a second dose at age 16. Then NOTHING AT ALL BETWEEN ages 16 and 30. It’s completely fucked.

You’re preaching to the choir! New Zealand schools have a v different governance structure; it was v easy for the previous govt to say “no longer our problem” and lump it on schools, which are not equipped to make public health decisions. Our kids are under vaccinated. Current govt doesn’t care.

I should add I specifically mentioned the intense pressure from school and govt on attendance and how this absolutely pressures kids to return to school while still sick, and gave examples.

Until the school makes it clear and/or puts an automatic statement on all permission slips etc, I’ll keep contacting each individual teacher running an event/extracurrricular/ activity for my kids & asking for their plan to prevent illness spread, esp given our current wave.

Does the idea make you uncomfortable? I get it, but think about how much better you’ll feel if they take some positive action. It’s worth it for your kids’ health.

lol. My local MP made up a survey to gather feedback about a new bus lane. Her original options were things like remove it or turn it into a bus and T2 lane. Oops she didn’t think to add “keep it as is” until ppl pointed it out. 🙄
