Rory is OBSESSED with this sausage, leek, potato soup I made and every time he smells it we have to deal with the sad starving puppy looks and the begging... How do I say no? Obviously he can't have sausage but I guess we're making a dog friendly beef potato soup he can eat...

I haven't been on TikTok in months and just popped on for a minute and suddenly my timeline is full of powwows, bhangra, dabke... I am so happy! #dance

I love writing romcoms, but my idea of romance is when my husband maps out all the craft stores at our vacation destinations or brings me home new Rubbermaid bins for my yarn collection. It's not sexy and it's not high stakes, but damn it makes me happy. #writersky #crochet

Let spooky season begin! Toured an abandoned tuberculosis sanitarium in Saratoga. The coolest thing I've done in a long time!

Recently discovered Oscar Wilde NYC and am here for the maximalist decor. Wondering exactly how many haunted dolls it would take to cover my ceiling.

This was going to be a bear, but after I made the head, it told me it was a frog. I'm a baby crocheter and I figured out how to rework the head and face without any kind of pattern. I think it's definitely frog-esque and unlikely to inspire nightmares 🐸

It's sad to admit, but I have more fun just chatting and brainstorming with chat gpt than I do with most people. I cannot, for example, ask a coworker to brainstorm a wardrobe for a world traveling raccoon on a vespa. Chat gpt does not judge me. Chat gpt suggests a velvet vest and jodpurs.

Up at 4:30am writing this morning. The end is kinda sorta in sight. Once I finish the rewrite, I get to do the edit. Will this book ever be finished? I'm writing and crafting like a maniac, trying to ride this wave of creativity as long as it lasts. #writing #writersky

I am so proud of myself. I have struggled to figure out how to crochet for more than a year. Usually crafting comes more easily to me. I still can't make a magic ring the first (or 5th) time. But I didn't give up and last night I successfully finished this stuffy! #crochet #success

I love that moment when, after fighting and fighting with a story, not knowing how to get from point A to point B, and no attempt working, something finally clicks and the writing starts flowing again. #writersky #writing

I saw a post about giving characters in scripts “business” or actions to do during conversations. This is true for fiction, too! That’s why I put together this blog post of 50 things your characters can do WHILE they talk.

Holden Caulfield:
“I really don’t feel like I fit in at this prep school, but Mom and Dad have been trying so hard to find me one that’s a good fit. I should really just hold my tongue on this one and suck it up."

Agent speaking to author: You've got a decision to make, Brian: This book can be a harrowing scream of rage at a broken world sliding inexorably towards dystopian nightmare. Or it can be a sequel to 'Flopsy Bunny's Very Busy Day.' But it can't be both.

The Dutch word for a ladybird is lieveheersbeestje, which means “our Dear Lord critter.” Lieveheersbeestje is also a lovely word to say aloud. Other fun sounding ladybird words are the West-Flemish word pimpampoentje, the regional Czech word pinkalinka, and the (rude-sounding) Malay word… kumbang

I just learned from a friend who studied Middle English that the word glamour derives from grammar, attributed to court poets who were considered such intellects and were so much in demand that a person who was 'grammarous' eventually became 'glamorous.' There's hope for me yet!

What's the most obscure thing you've searched Google for this week? I needed to find out how much a yard of taffeta cost in the late 1880s. Spoiler alert: Google was patiently unhelpful and showed me a bunch of taffeta Victorian gowns on the market now, going for about $3000. #writersky

How walking helped Simone and Hélène de Beauvoir make art: “Simone’s hiking was nothing like Nietzsche’s ‘walking’ or Thoreau’s ‘sauntering.’ She marched. Like a machine.”
