I'd speculate they may be factoring in Grijalva not being sworn in possibly coming into play if ending the shutdown requires the House to vote again after negotiations instead of the current CR getting passed in the Senate.

Johnson may also see it as a way to pressure Dems to end the shutdown.

In a way having to negotiate with the Dems could set a precedent that the Republicans in the legislature don't have to stand aside and can start expressing the will of their constituents again. Fracturing the lines would be very dangerous for the idea that Trump is a king who dictates everything.

I doubt this is about the Epstein files. The House alone wouldn't get them released anyway. Seems more like they still think they can break the Dems on the shutdown and make them bend to Trump's will. Hopefully that won't be the case and the pain from the shutdown will start pushing them eventually.

It is a fair point that you're probably not solving the problem in any meaningful way or even helping the overall situation if you give someone the means to buy from the scarce resources that are so limited that they can only be sold to some small part of the population at exorbitant prices.

I've seen video reporting about the expensive prices there as well. Questions about where the sellers get them are certainly good ones to make but at the end of the day a family can't really boycott them even if the way they operate is problematic if the options are buying or starving...

Looks to me like this slight increase may be being driven mostly by adult content creators right now at least when looking at who is joining today.

WOW: The White House says the president's MAIN PRIORITY is his BALLROOM. SNAP is ending. Subsidies for health care are gong to double and in some instances quadruple plan premiums. The government is shut down. The cost of living is through the roof. And his priority is his ballroom.

Sure, some more people use bsky than use Mastodon but really I'd say both are comparably small and what everyone is probably using is Threads.

Mastodon/fediverse is already predominantly European and not controlled by any single entity that could be bought out. It would make a lot of sense for EU govs to start supporting it more.
