Many and diversely, Olympics just hasn't been one.

Nope. I don't watch so long as there are ruzzians participating, and the IOC doing backflps for them, while also sanctioning Ukrainians for remembering lost athletes. It's the hypocrisy that robs joy.

Antarctic researchers solve long-standing Blood Falls mystery Antarctic glacier bleeds red water, and scientists reveal hidden pressure beneath the mysterious millennial ice.

Fun little paper we published last month got picked up by earth.com. The author got it mostly right. There was no press release so he seemed to go above and beyond and read the paper and some citations in it and used references. Nice work. #scicomm 🧪 www.earth.com/news/antarct...

Can you expand on weird results? Is reference curve in order? Have you tried adding a small spike to the mid range of a reference to see if it moves it up or down the line? Sorry, don't have specific knowledge of re: sample prep, but working the bugs out of Cayman kits is my jam (pH, salts, protein)

Building a Life in Science Against the Odds A physiologist reflects on resilience, resourcefulness, and building a successful research career in unconventional and often challenging environments.

APS member Douglas R. Seals overcame a series of challenges to forge a successful career in science. "You, not your environment, are the master of your fate," he says.

Did you check the pH with a test strip? Lizards and birds can be high in uric acid, might be a compatability range issue. (If so, input NaOH/KOH to tolerance range of assay?)

What is interesting is that shots are often being delivered (unconsciously or manipulatively) by those who contribute the free intellectual labour.

Have you found yourself aligned in one of the 3 camps? How did you get there? Ever felt that you were criticized for picking a certain journal?

🧪 An interesting 3-way competition continues to take form (& shots at each other) in scientific publishing.
Society, Open Access, & Traditional Publishers.
All are accused of "impact" flaws, inaccessibility, citation gaming, predatory practices, or profiteering from free intellectual labour. 1/2

I am sorry that your families are impacyed in multiple ways, it cant be easy on anyone. It is interesting how these clustered, if you ever have the chance to do clinical genetic sequencing, it could be helpful to future studies. I wonder if there are some more linkages to be discovered still.
